The F.I.L.M. Army November 2010 Edition: The Politics Of Ranting

November 6th, 2010

…the politics of oooooh feeling good (about being right).

What the F.I.L.M. Army lacks in rhyming ability, they make up for in sheer movie netcasting might. And this month that might is enhanced with the help of a raft of special guests. James Vorstenbosch of the unaffiliated-but-still-pretty-cool Film Army (real men use acronyms) talks with Evan about how his group helps young Canadian filmmakers and which Canadian films everyone should see. Nate returns with a big fat sack of House Of The Dead, the best movie about zombie pirates since that one with the guy from 21 Jump Street. And if that wasn’t enough, Chris from Blogulator and Bald Bryan from The Film Vault join Courtney and Evan in the War Room, where a bunch of white men talk about politics. Typical.

This month’s soundtrack was provided by Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, available on DVD and Blu-Ray November 9th.

Even Canadians can appreciate the value of a free 2 week trial of Netflix. Not only does it help support the F.I.L.M. Army, it makes it easier to see all those random movies we mention during the show. You did right them all down, right? For those cadets with smart phones, be sure to find us on Stitcher, the free podcast radio app for iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Palm Pre. Dumb phones need not apply.

More information and show notes can be found in our forums. You can find out how to submit your segments to the show there as well. Questions and comments can be left below or can be sent to film@fancypantsgangsters.com. The F.I.L.M. Army can also be found on Facebook and Twitter, or in the hearts of the brave men and women who fight everyday for film and internet independence.

Yet Another Gaming Show Episode 212 – What’s a Tim Tebow

September 4th, 2010

Personally I think the monk look is coming back. I mean, craft beer is making a huge resurgence, and who makes better beer than monks?

Mike finally dives headlong into Madden 11, despite assurances that he wouldn’t. He will get 10 whacks with the Liar’s Plank. Engineer Jeff (which is not a character on Shining Time Station) joins us to replace an ailing Ashley and promises to contribute but barely does, so he gets a few whacks as well. Courtney claims to have passed Evan on Scott Pilgrim: The Game, which is impossible because I said so, so more whacks for him. And Evan should just be hit in general, so whacks all around. At least its better than a boot to the head.

Come on down and check out Evan, Ashley, and maybe some other Fancy Pants Gangsters at the Chicagoland Entertainment Collector’s Expo on September 9th-12. We’ll be doing live streaming as well as talking to people live at the show, and we’d love if a few of our listeners showed up to say hi as well. Stay tuned to the site for more details.

Yet Another Gaming Show Episode 210 – Not That Culkin

August 19th, 2010

It’s a shame no one on YAGS has a connection to the Culkin family. We love big Irish families and also would love to meet Mila Kunis.

Another Ashley-less week, but this week we have super engineer Jeff filling in the role as the hottest person on the show. Which says less about Jeff and more about the three other bridge trolls that comprise the cast.

Nevertheless, the guys do manage to discuss the Scott Pilgrim movie/game empire, how to make a better movie tie-in, Monday Night Combat and even Starcraft 2. If that wasn’t enough, Evan also interviews Roguelikefiction.com‘s Nathan Jerpe about his game Legerdemain. It’s like putting 10 gallons of show in a 5 gallon bucket!

Yet Another Gaming Show Episode 209 – In The Year 1997

August 12th, 2010

Come with me, children, as I tell of the great year 1997.  It was a magical time, where cults killed themselves because a UFO was coming on a comet, James Cameron began his reign of terror as an unelected “King Of The World“, and all humans went back in time, forcing animals to build a tower to the sky.

Some or all these things may not have actually happened.

Nevertheless, in our time (down here), Evan returns from GenCon with almost no video game news (but he does bring a Scott Pilgrim game review), Courtney insults the deaf, and Mike gets all Future-Man with us and plays videogames from only a few years ago. The nerve.
