This episode of Girl Germs is a bittersweet one. Not only are we bidding adieu to the year 2011 (which was a pretty good one music-wise, no?)—Anna and Dana are signing off for a while. The Girl Germs podcast will be going on hiatus this winter but, before it does, we wanted to put together this mix for you of some of our favorite songs by lady artists from the year. Enjoy it while you ring in 2012, and make sure to check the blog in the coming months as we’ll still be posting content there. We’ll also be making a BIG announcement in the spring, so stay tuned for that!

This week Anna and Dana are previewing the many lady-centric events happening in the Twin Cities this weekend. Yeti Records is hosting their second Girl a Whirl Saturday, Nov. 5 with performances from local musicians. Also on Saturday Lori Lobenstine, the author of Girls Got Kicks, will join Desdamona, Maria Isa and Tish Jones at Fifth Element for a book-release party (read our interview with Lobenstine here). Fancy Pants Gangsters will be on hand all weekend at Minneapolis Indie Xpo, a celebration of independent comic artists and zine makers (come and say hi!), and both the North Star and Minnesota Roller Girls have bouts coming up. Later in the show, Kat from Grease Rag Ride & Wrench, a local organization that advocates for women, trans and femme cyclists, joins us to talk about Grease Rag’s winter skill share (during which you can get tips on winter cycling, meet other lady bikers and learn bike-maintenance tips) on Sunday, Nov. 6.
