July 27th, 2010

Many local bands have aspirations to pack their gear into a smelly van and hit the road for places unknown to tour the country.  This week’s guest is living out that dream.  Listen in as Andy from the Wisconsin reggae-rock band T.U.G.G. calls into the show from somewhere in the Nevada desert to talk about their current tour as well as their new album Come Sunrise…  From the benefits of meeting people on the road to the temperamental weather of the Midwest, Courtney and Andy discuss it all.

This show is brought to you in part by MNSKA.com, Minnesota’s Ska Community.  You can contact Courtney at FOSS@fancypantsgangsters.com or follow him on Twitter at twitter.com/mnska. For a track listing of this episode’s songs, be sure to check out the forums.

The Flyover Ska Show Episode 16 – Mustard Plug

Posted by FPG Post-O-Matic

July 19th, 2010

One of the coolest places in all of Minneapolis is the dive bar/music venue known as the Triple Rock Social Club, so it was Courtney’s distinct pleasure to head down there for this week’s episode.  Michigan ska veterans Mustard Plug chat backstage at their 14,080th show and talk about the sexual healing powers of Fishbone, why Big D and The Kids Table are the “Beatles of ska,” and the benefits of being a weekend warrior band.  It appears that the secret to their staying power is to have an all-time designated driver and release music one song at a time.  To find out more about the Mustard Plug guide to touring, check out this week’s Flyover Ska Show!

The Flyover Ska Show Episode 15 – Sic And MAD

Posted by FPG Post-O-Matic

July 12th, 2010

The planets aligned this week and Courtney was able to talk to not one, but TWO members from long-standing punk-reggae group Sic & MAD.  Guitarist Vic Ruggiero and frontman Happy call-in from Version City Studios, home of Stubborn Records, to promote their latest record Songs For The Revolution.  Listen in as the guys chat about why it’s “punk rock” to like MySpace, how Happy is indirectly to blame for the formation of The Slackers, and how the genesis of Sic & MAD is a story of kids lying to impress a cute girl.  From high school reunions to Hot Topic, Vic and Happy discuss it all for you, the humble listener.

The Flyover Ska Show Episode 14 – Hardcore Crayons

Posted by FPG Post-O-Matic

July 5th, 2010

After getting caught in an early summer thunderstorm prior to their concert in Minneapolis, Dan and Dom from the MNSKA band Hardcore Crayons took shelter in Courtney’s living room long enough to talk about their upcoming album Crayogenics.  The fellas dry off and chat about venues come and gone, why they no longer sing about Taco Bell, and the suicide-pacts of their underage fans.  If you are in the Minneapolis area, be sure to check out their 21+ CD Release at Sauce (Lyndale and Lake) on Friday, July 30th or their ALL AGES CD Release at Eclipse Records (St. Paul) on Saturday, August 7th.
