Blogulator Radio Episode 3 – Foghorn

This week on Blogulator Radio, Chris takes the reins and invites three different guests on the mic to help him cover some very disparate TV-related topics, ranging from a Chinese children’s animated program to soap operas (both daytime and primetime) and our first foray into the discussion of reality television. The episode is entitled “Foghorn” but it’s up to you to listen and see why. Keep your ears open because otherwise you might miss it!

First, Chris welcomes Blogulator contributor Lady Amy (whose written features for the site have been on hiatus since she left for a trip around the world six months ago!) all the way from Beijing to discuss a burgeoning manic fad in China centering around a new cartoon called Pleasant Goat & Big Big Wolf (1:48), which may make its way to the states soon courtesy of the Disney Channel. Next Lady Amy laments missing some of her favorite programs while spending her days in a communist state, and with the recent cancellations of All My Children & One Life to Live (11:42), we ponder the future of the soap opera and what the landscape of daytime TV is looking like lately in general.

After saying goodbye to Lady Amy, Chris says hello to DoktorPeace, a regular Blogulator contributor, to talk season 5 of Friday Night Lights (20:33), which finally premiered on NBC this past week after running in full on DirecTV earlier this year and also being released on DVD. With Chris currently watching week-to-week on the big network station and the good Doktor having seen the entire stretch of 13 episodes courtesy of cable, an interesting conversation is had regarding the double-edge sword that is word of mouth. Should those who have seen all of the new and final season of FNL even be talking with us peons relegated to the delayed airings, for fear of pre-coloring our opinions before even forming our own about the show?

Finally, Chris invites his own wife Jerksica onto the ‘cast to talk competitive reality television because no one else at The Blogulator has gone down that rabbit hole with him quite yet. Specifically they chat about the tenth and inarguably most ridiculous season yet of American Idol (32:44), the sweet high the viewer attains from reveling in the failures of those that get booted off reality shows, and the general inability of people like Randy Jackson to coherently offer criticism to some of the show’s most obnoxiously “unique” contestants yet.
